Admit it. You’ve been thinking about it for months now, yet you keep procrastinating. You know it can make your life easier and your business run better, yet you still keep pondering, considering and evaluating the right inventory system for your bar. Yet still you do nothing.
And do you know why? I do. I speak with owners every day about their point-of-view, and so I know EXACTLY what they’re resistance and misgivings are to pulling the trigger and implementing a new bar inventory system.

REASON 1: YOU VIEW IT AS AN EXPENSE
This seems to be the most common reason among owners. They look at their monthly expenses and they don’t think they can POSSIBLY add one more expense to the budget.
Logically you know this is not true, though. It seems like an expense, but deep down you know that using a system that monitors the bartenders pours will save you $1,000’s per month whereas the inventory system should only cost you about $100 – $125 per month. That’s ROI you can’t ignore, and as we all know, it’s a known fact that bartenders are giving away 25% of your profits.
The real truth: your BIGGEST expense is the money you don’t make.
REASON 2: YOUR COMFORTABLE WITH THE OLD WAY OF DOING THINGS
Sure, your clipboard inventory and Excel spreadsheets are a pain-in-the-ass, but they’re familiar and oh-so-comfy.
Yes, familiarity is comfy and safe, but think about this: if you never upgraded in other areas of your life you’d still be using a flip phone, dial-up internet and you’d have to be home to watch Game of Thrones at its scheduled time because you’d have no DVR.
These are conveniences you will never give up. And they aren’t even saving you money. Nevertheless, once you have them you simply will never go back, nor would you ever want to go back. Who wants to live without modern conveniences?
It’s the same with a quality inventory system. Once you have it, you’ll be in love all over again.
REASON 3: YOU DON’T HAVE THE TIME AND ENERGY TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW
It’s true, learning anything new can take some time and energy. Just like the aforementioned iPhone and DVR, it took some time to learn to navigate the new features, but again how much do you love them now?
A good inventory company will be there to train, educate and support you every step of the way, via live phone support, email and videos. Within a few hours you’ll know what you’re doing.
After all, that time is going to go by whether you do something or not, so ask yourself if you want to keep making excuses or if you want your bar to make more money and save more time.
REASON 4: YOU BELIEVE YOUR BARTENDERS ARE FAIRLY HONEST
It’s important to have faith in your staff and not always be suspiciously scrutinizing their every move. To do so chops employee moral right down to the nub.
HOWEVER (and this is a big however), I’m going to lay a fact on you that you need to pay attention to: 90% of bartenders steal. It’s simply the truth. Stealing being, over-pouring, not ringing up drinks or simply skimming from the register. There are 100 ways for them to do it that no video camera can ever detect.
It doesn’t really matter at this point WHY they steal. They are simply caught up doing what everyone around them is doing. It’s basic conformity and the best of people get caught up in it. What matters is stopping it, and only a modern bar inventory system can do that.
REASON 5: IT’S NOT A PRIORITY ON YOUR LONG LIST OF THINGS THAT NEEDS TO GET DONE
I get this one. Running a business is as overwhelming as it gets. I don’t blame you for putting things off when your to-do list is 10 miles long.
(Here comes another “However”)
However, like anything in life, if it’s important, find a way to set a goal, take action and get it done. What you’ll find out is that it isn’t as overwhelming as you’ve been picturing it, and once you get the system in place, you will feel SO good about it.
Bottom line here? You’ve been thinking about it, you know you’re going to do it sooner or later, so stop procrastinating, take action, get it done and start saving time and money in your business because it’s the smart thing to do.
